YOUR VOICE. YOUR TRUTH. RIGHTEOUSLY AUTHENTIC.
We know young people have the ability, passion, and desire to spark positive change in their communities and create their own futures. YEBO is an intensive accelerator program that sits within and beyond a traditional school setting that leverages the power of media to transform the learning experiences of students in grades 5-12. Our program is a call to action to students to design and execute their own media enterprises that uplift stories from the margins, interrogate inequities, and activate critical thinking in audiences.
A PLATFORM FOR AGENCY AND SELF-DETERMINATION
At YEBO, our goal (as adults) is to make ourselves obsolete. We are unapologetic and relentlessly student-centered and focused on supporting young people to build agency for themselves, believing they should have time and space to actualize their unique gifts and to make decisions over their learning experiences. YEBO does this by creating a brave and affirming space for students to explore their authentic selves and experiment with their ideas. Students engage a design thinking learning space that supports them with
building the skills, attitudes, and mindsets needed to develop into healthy, audacious, and engaged citizens.
GENIUS IS ABUNANT
Partnerships and collaboration are the heart of what we do here at YEBO. We work from an abundance mindset, believing that our communities are brimming with talent and assets. We partner with local educators, independent artists, and industry experts to offer students access to a rich network of supports, as well as to remain responsive to their unique interests. Our coaches are rooted in the communities they serve and facilitate each cohort's learning space, with the aim of providing students a collaborative and affirming environment.
Learning happens everywhere, so we've created transportable media studios that allow students to explore and create in the greatest classroom of all - their community. YEBOlabs are backpacks and small cases loaded with everything needed to film, photograph, record, and broadcast from anywhere in the community. With these tools, students can create documentaries, host podcasting sessions, or even throw pop-up festivals, concerts, and shows. With YEBOlabs, the world is a studio!
"I found myself wanting to have space where we could stop pretending and be comfortable sharing our internal dialogues, struggles, and narratives - our inner worlds."
